CHARLESTON, W.Va. — The Northern Panhandle Workforce Investment Board and WORKFORCE West Virginia announced today that staff is being sent to Weirton to assist dislocated workers from ArcelorMittal Weirton in completing applications for unemployment, job service, and trade benefits.
Representatives of the state trade programs will make a presentation explaining the training and income support benefits available through the TAA/TRA (Trade Adjustment Act/Trade Readjustment Allowance) programs and to answer questions posed by the workers.
Service providers from various local training and education institutions will also be on hand to assist those interested in training and preparations for a new occupation.
The meetings are scheduled at the Serbian-American Culture Center, 1000 Colliers Way, on Jan. 29 and 30. Those currently separated from ArcelorMittal Weirton have been contacted by telephone and scheduled to attend one of these meetings.
Those who haven’t turned in their severance election forms will be scheduled to attend one of these meetings by a union official when they submit their completed forms.
Anyone who has already elected to take the severance package and is not scheduled for one of these meetings should call Bob Hoover, 304-748-8080, at the local union hall before Jan. 28, 2008.
