 State Main Street Coordinator Receives National Leadership Award

Charleston, W.Va. –The Main Street Executive Committee recently received the 2008 National Main Street Partner award. The Executive Committee is chaired by West Virginia Main Street coordinator Monica Miller and includes Main Street representatives from eight states.

The honor was bestowed by the National Trust Main Street Center during the Opening Plenary of the National Main Streets Conference in Philadelphia on March 31, 2008.

The Main Street Partner Award recognizes regional and national Main Street advocates who enhance the public’s recognition of the importance of saving America’s downtowns and traditional commercial districts.

Main Street Executive Committee members who received the award include Monica Miller, Executive Committee Chair, West Virginia Main Street Program; Susan Kempf, Executive Committee Vice Chair, Washington State Main Street Program; Linda Barnett, Oklahoma Main Street Center; Robert Donohue, Jr., Main Street Oakland County (Michigan); Thom Guzman, Iowa Downtown Resource Center; Beppie LeGrand, Main Street South Carolina; Marion Boyd, Arkansas Main Street; Cary Tyson, Arkansas Main Street; and Beverly Meng, Mississippi Main Street Association.

West Virginia is home to 13 certified Main Street communities. Main Street West Virginia, a program of the West Virginia Development Office, focuses on economic revitalization of historic downtown commercial districts by providing technical services, design assistance, and continuous training of board/committee members and program managers. Main Street West Virginia acts a liaison between various state agencies and organizations and the designated Main Street communities.
