FAIRMONT, W.Va. –
Valley Falls State Park, near Fairmont, will be closed part of Monday, Aug. 8, for area maintenance. Posted signs explain the park will not be open for visitation from 7 a.m. – 4 p.m. due to tree maintenance at the park’s entrance.
“Trees at the park’s entrance that we believe could be potentially hazardous will be removed,” said Brad Reed, a district administrator with West Virginia’s state parks. Supt. Ronnie Fawcett will oversee the removal with assistance of professional arborists, various utilities companies and park staff.
“Monday is our least busy day at Valley Falls,” Fawcett said. “With any luck we’ll complete our work prior to 4 p.m., but reopening will depend upon what we run into with removal of limbs and the restoration of utilities and park signage.”

About Valley Falls State Park
Valley Falls State Park is a 1,145-acre day-use area and one of West Virginia’s many state parks. Known for scenic views, it is located a short drive from Fairmont and Grafton. Valley Falls hosts a variety of outdoor recreation including fishing, picnicking, kayaking with permission, and 18 miles of hiking and mountain biking trails.
The beauty of the park is enhanced by the spectacular series of foaming falls which were created by the dark, rushing waters of the Tygart Valley River and provides a boundary between Marion and Taylor counties. The prevalent rock formation known as
Connoquenessing sandstone forms the cap of the falls over which the river plunges and swirls and appears both as ledges and huge room size boulders for more than a mile down the narrow canyon floor.
