Charleston, WV – The Governor’s Highway Safety Program, the West Virginia Alcohol Beverage Control Administration and West Virginia law enforcement agencies will be conducting statewide compliance checks in May/June 2009 when high school proms and graduations are occurring.
The increased compliance efforts are aimed at reducing the nationwide statistics which show that persons between the ages of 16 and 21 are more likely to die from alcohol related accidents. These efforts are funded in part by a federal grant from the National Highway Traffic Highway Safety Administration (NHTSA) and administered by the Governor’s Highway Safety Program.
In addition to sending a message to servers and sellers of alcohol we also encourage parents to talk with their children. If you are a young adult under the age of 21 you should also be aware of the consequences and criminal penalties that may result from the illegal consumption of alcohol.
