Order trees early for the spring planting season

2/4/2008

WEST COLUMBIA, W.Va. -- “ Spring is less than two months away and now is the perfect time to plan your spring tree planting projects.  The Division of Forestry's forest tree nursery is accepting orders for bare-root tree seedlings through April 15.  Clements State Tree Nursery grows and sells both deciduous and conifer seedlings that landowners can plant for reforestation, erosion control, Christmas trees, shelter belts, windbreaks, strip-mine reclamation or wildlife habitat.  The nursery has more than a dozen different types of tree seedlings left in stock, including Chinese chestnut, sycamore, black walnut and various species of pine and oak.  A new addition to the nursery's inventory is silky dogwood, which is now available for purchase although it did not appear on the original order forms.

The minimum number of trees that may be purchased is 50, and some species require a minimum order of 500.  Order forms, a complete price list and minimum order requirements are available for download from the Division of Forestry's Web site at www.wvforestry.com. To request an order form by mail, call the nursery at (304) 675-1820, or e-mail the staff at clements@wvnet.edu.  Completed order forms and payments should be mailed to Clements State Tree Nursery, P. O. Box 8, West Columbia, WV 25287.  Order forms also are available from the Division of Forestry's regional offices in Fairmont, Romney, Beckley, Parkersburg and Milton.

For more information about tree seedlings, contact Superintendent David McCurdy at (304) 675-1820.
