Public Tour at Calvin Price State Forest Scheduled for Oct. 3

9/22/2009
BECKLEY, W.Va. – The West Virginia Division of Forestry (DOF) will conduct a public tour at Calvin Price State Forest at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 3, 2009.  This is an informational tour for the public to learn about plans for a prescribed timber harvest in the Burr Valley section of the eastern portion of the forest.

“This proposed project will provide more diverse wildlife habitat and forest growth potential, as well as improved access to the forest,” said State Lands Manager Barb Breshock.  “The tour will offer the public an opportunity to see the area and submit comments on the proposed project.”

Those attending will meet in the forest at the clearing 1.25 miles south of the South Entrance to Watoga State Park, along Beaver Creek Road.  Watch for green DOF trucks and colored plastic ribbons at the clearing.  Please check the DOF Web site at www.wvforestry.com to see a map.

Breshock advises anyone who plans to attend the tour to bring substantial footwear, weather-appropriate clothing, snacks and water.  The tour will involve a hike of a little over one mile on uneven ground in the woods, and on an old road with some wet areas.
