BECKLEY, W.Va. – The West Virginia Division of Forestry (DOF) will conduct a public tour at Camp Creek State Forest at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 17, 2009. This is an informational tour for the public to learn about plans for a prescribed timber harvest in the eastern portion of the forest near Neely Ridge.
State Lands Manager Barbara Breshock says that the tour will offer the public an opportunity to see the area and to submit their comments on the proposed project. “Providing more diverse wildlife habitat and forest growth potential, as well as improving access to the forest, are the goals of this proposed project.”
Those attending will meet at the parking area for the Farley Branch Shelter on Camp Creek State Park. From there, the group will carpool to the tour area on the forest.
Breshock advises anyone who plans to take the tour to bring substantial footwear, weather-appropriate clothing, snacks and water. The tour will involve a hike of a little over one mile on uneven ground in the woods, and on an old road with some wet areas.
