Public Tour at Greenbrier State Forest Scheduled for Oct. 25

10/15/2008

BECKLEY, W.Va. – The West Virginia Division of Forestry will conduct a public tour at Greenbrier State Forest at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 25, 2008.  The tour will take place in the forest’s northeast section at the site of a planned timber harvest.  Those interested in attending should meet at the site of the old picnic shelter on Kate’s Mountain in Greenbrier State Forest prior to 10 a.m.

“This tour will give the public an opportunity to see and comment on the proposed timber harvest at Greenbrier State Forest,” said Barb Breshock, State Lands Manager for the Division of Forestry.  “By harvesting this timber we will be able to provide more diverse habitat for the forest’s wildlife and increase the forest’s growth potential.”

Breshock advises anyone who plans on attending the tour to bring substantial footwear, weather-appropriate clothing, snacks and water.  The tour will involve a one-fourth to one-half mile hike over uneven ground in the woods, not on trails.
