CHARLESTON, W.Va. -Gov. Tomblin today issued a proclamation, following the Secretary of State's confirmation that all counties have completed the canvassing and certification process required by law, calling the Legislature into extraordinary session at noon, Sunday, November 13, 2011, for the purpose of certifying and declaring the results of the October 4th special gubernatorial election. Following the Legislature's certification, Tomblin will be sworn in as Governor of West Virginia and an inauguration ceremony will be held at 3:00 p.m. on the afternoon of the 13th.
"I want to thank the Secretary of State and our election officials for their hard work in completing the democratic process," Gov. Tomblin said.
Gov. Tomblin has been acting as governor since Nov. 15, 2010, when then-Gov. Joe Manchin resigned upon his election to the U.S. Senate. A new election required by the West Virginia Constitution for the remainder of former-Gov. Manchin's unexpired term was held on October 4, 2011.
