
Governor, Dr. Paine Participate in Press Conference Discussing Upcoming Special Session on Education

CHARLESTON, W.Va. – Gov. Joe Manchin today joined West Virginia Superintendent of Schools Dr. Steve Paine and members of the State Board of Education for a press conference to discuss the upcoming Special Session of the West Virginia Legislature, which will focus on education. The Special Session starts at noon on May 13.
“We must work together to better our education system because our children and grandchildren deserve the best that we can offer,” Gov. Joe Manchin said. “I recently spoke with the Department of Education and the State Board of Education members and challenged them to set forth what changes needed to be made in order for our state to compete. We must bring innovation and reforms to education so that we can ensure that our children are getting the necessary skill-sets in order to lead successful lives.”
During the upcoming special session, the State Board of Education will propose changes to eight topics: Charter Innovation Zone 2.0 Schools; Monetary Payments; Professional School Personnel Hiring; Professional School Personnel Evaluations; Improving Low-Performing Schools, Alternative Teacher and Principal Certification; Comprehensive Health Screenings; and, Teacher Empowerment Teams.
