CHARLESTON, W.Va. - Gov. Joe Manchin and First Lady Gayle Manchin join teachers, parents, community leaders, elected officials and students to discuss high school dropout prevention measures at 5 p.m. on Tuesday, July 14, at the Charleston Civic Center. Three sessions will make up the majority of this state summit on high school graduation and dropout prevention, including: the reasons why students drop-out of school, the solutions and recommended best practices. The official agenda follows.
“This statewide summit allows West Virginians to maintain an open dialogue when it comes to high school dropout prevention,” First Lady Gayle Manchin said. “So many have helped make this summit into a reality, and I appreciate all of the partners, sponsors and volunteers who have worked tirelessly on this project. This event sends a clear message to our students that we are not giving up on them or their futures. Every student matters and the reality is that in a changing economy and in order for a young adult to be competitive in today’s workforce, education and skill sets are needed now more than ever. Therefore, we must do everything we can to encourage kids to obtain a quality education. Our future depends on it.”
