 Governor Announces Jeffrey Shawver As Deputy General Counsel

CHARLESTON, W.Va. - Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin today announced the selection of Jeffrey M. Shawver, Esq. to serve as Deputy General Counsel, replacing Mary Claire Davis. Ms. Davis resigned to take the position of CJA Supervising attorney for the Southern District of West Virginia. “I appreciate the time Mary Claire worked with us. She will be a terrific asset to the Southern District and I wish her well,” said Gov. Tomblin.

Mr. Shawver’s appointment is effective immediately.

Prior to his appointment, Shawver practiced law at Bowles Rice McDavid Graff & Love LLP. As an associate he was part of the Energy – Coal, Oil and Gas Practice Group in addition to the Commercial and Financial Services Practice Group. Shawver also served as Special Assistant to former West Virginia Governor Joe Manchin III and assistant to the former General Counsel/Director of Public Division Daniel E. Kimble, Esq. in the office of Secretary of State.

“I am pleased that Jeffrey has accepted this appointment,” said Gov. Tomblin. “He will bring great enthusiasm to state government and I look forward to his joining the team.”

Shawver is admitted to practice law in the West Virginia Supreme Court of Appeals and United States District Court for the Southern and Northern Districts of West Virginia. He is a member of the American Bar Association, West Virginia Bar Association and the West Virginia State Bar. A 2008 graduate of the West Virginia University College of Law and a 2004 graduate of West Virginia State University. He was selected to the Order of the Coif for outstanding scholarly achievement and contribution to the WVU College of Law.

Jeffrey Shawver is a native of St. Albans, W.Va. and currently resides in Charleston with his wife Amy and their two children, Isaiah Jeffrey and Adelyn Grace.
