 Governor Announces Juvenile Accountability Block Grant Awards

CHARLESTON, W.Va –Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin announced today that his office has awarded $431,343 in Juvenile Accountability Block Grant (JABG) Program funds. These funds are awarded to units of local government throughout the state to address the growing problem of juvenile crime by promoting greater accountability in the juvenile justice system. Gov. Tomblin stated the recent awards are focused in the areas of accountability-based sanction programs for juvenile offenders; specialized juvenile prosecution, restorative justice programs; and school safety programs.
 
The Division of Justice and Community Services administers this program from funds provided by the U.S. Department of Justice, Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention. The JABG program is based on Title III of H.R. 3, The Juvenile Accountability Block Grants Act of 1997, as passed by the House of Representatives on May 8, 1997.
