CHARLESTON, W.Va. - Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin today announced the appointment of Raamie Barker to serve as Senior Advisor.
A 1968 graduate of Marshall University, he earned his BA in Education/Social Studies. In 1991 he earned his MA in Journalism. Barker taught in the Logan County School System. He has served as adjunct instructor at the University of Charleston and Southern West Virginia Community and Technical College.
“I am pleased that Raamie is joining my staff to continue to serve the people of West Virginia,” Gov. Tomblin said. “We have known each other many years and I look forward to continuing our work together.”
Barker had served Gov. Tomblin and members of the West Virginia State Senate as Administrative Assistant and Chief of Staff since 1996. He also served four years as Deputy Labor Commissioner, Labor Commissioner and as a communications aide to former Gov. Arch A. Moore, Jr. In addition, Barker worked as editor of the Logan Banner, editor of the Williamson Daily News, publisher of the Coal Valley News (Madison), copy editor at the Beckley Register Herald, managing editor of the Enquirer-Journal, Monroe, NC and publisher of the Richmond Register, Richmond, KY. His career includes work in radio, television, magazines, book publishing, newspaper consulting and public relations.
Barker is the son of the late Fletcher (Shag) and the late Betty Barker of Chapmanville and is married to the former Lillian Farley of Harts. They are parents of three children, three foster daughters and have two grandchildren.
