CHARLESTON, W.Va. – Gov. Joe Manchin has selected John R. Junkins, Jr., as deputy commissioner for the West Virginia Division of Labor (DOL). Junkins’ appointment became effective July 14, 2009.
Junkins has been an employee of the DOL for 28 years where he most recently held the position of Weights and Measures director.
“John’s expertise and dedication is a valued asset for West Virginia,” said Manchin. “I believe his time spent in state government will serve the state very well.”
He started working with Labor in 1981 as a Wage and Hour inspector. He has also held the positions of field supervisor and labor program specialist. In 2001, Junkins was appointed by former Gov. Bob Wise to the CQC Committee on Undocumented Workers.
He is currently a member of the National Conference on Weights and Measures and the Southern Weights and Measures Association, where he sits on the board of directors, as well as the Laws and Regulations Committee. He also serves on the Privacy Committee for the State of West Virginia.
“I am very excited to have this opportunity to serve with Commissioner Mullins as we continue to protect consumers and businesses throughout the state,” Junkins said.
Junkins resides in Kanawha County with his wife Paula.
