CHARLESTON, W.Va. - Today Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin congratulates the Boy Scouts of America as their West Virginia location was chosen to host the World Scout Jamboree in 2019. This is the first time the World Scout Jamboree will be held in the United States in more than 40 years.
“This is an exciting opportunity for West Virginia Boy Scouts and Boy Scouts worldwide,” Governor Tomblin said. “Through a global search The Summit Bechtel Family National Scout Reserve location in West Virginia became the clear choice for more than 35,000 Scouts from around the world to come together to experience high-adventure, create new friendships and learn from one another’s cultures.”
The Summit Bechtel Family National Scout Reserve consists of 10,600 acres in Fayette County where Scouts will be able to experience white-water rafting, rock climbing, and mountain biking starting in 2013.
The bid to secure the 12-day-long 2019 World Scout Jamboree began two years ago and was a coordinated effort between the Boy Scouts of America and their counterparts in Mexico and Canada.
