PLEASE NOTE: NEW TIME AND LOCATION
CHARLESTON, W.Va. – The governor joined representatives from the state’s congressional delegation, state and local government officials, business and labor leaders and others today to announce the creation of the Job Loss Support Team, a group of state government experts that will help provide assistance to displaced Century Aluminum workers and their families.
“When one West Virginian is hurting, all West Virginians are hurting,” Gov. Joe Manchin said. “This support team will go beyond programs that we may traditionally associate with layoffs or plant closures. We must help these individuals in every way possible, from educating them on the different assistance programs to job re-training options.”
The first Job Loss Support Team community meeting will be held at 3:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 13, 2009, at the Ravenswood High School Women’s Gymnasium located on South Richie Street, in Ravenswood. The governor encourages those affected by the Century closure to attend. Officials from an array of state and community agencies will be on site to discuss assistance available to displaced workers and their families.
