CHARLESTON, W.Va. – After learning of a blaze that claimed the Sissonville Volunteer Fire Department fire station, Gov. Joe Manchin today offered state resources and assistance toward the town of Sissonville and the Sissonville fire crew’s recovery efforts, in the wake of this disaster.
“Today’s fire is a tremendous loss for the town of Sissonville and all of the dedicated people who work and call the Sissonville Volunteer Fire Department a home away from home,” said the governor. “This is devastating news for the citizens of Sissonville who rely on this vital public service. The state is committed to working with county and local government to help them get back on their feet as quickly as possible.”
Gov. Manchin has called upon state Homeland Security and Emergency Management director Jimmy Gianato, State Fire Marshal Sterling Lewis and officials from the West Virginia Department of Transportation to coordinate efforts with other state and local emergency services personnel to provide necessary equipment and resources. Thus far, the state officials have assisted with the initial phase of this effort and will be on site throughout this process.
“Our fire departments are the lifeblood to our communities. They are one of the most essential services that keep our communities safe,” Gov. Manchin said. “We will do what is necessary to allow the rebuilding process to happen as expediently as possible.”
