CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- Gov. Joe Manchin today issued a proclamation, in accordance with a presidential proclamation, ordering U.S. and state flags at all state facilities to be displayed at half-staff Thursday, Sept. 11 to honor the victims of the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks on America.
Following the federal proclamation issued by President George W. Bush on Monday, Sept. 8, Gov. Joe Manchin also called upon citizens to commemorate Thursday’s Patriot Day national observance by pausing for a moment of silence beginning at 8:46 a.m. eastern daylight time to honor the victims of the 9/11 attacks.
All West Virginians are invited to attend special ceremonies Thursday in the lower rotunda of the State Capitol Complex to commemorate the seventh anniversary of the 9/11 attacks.
The ceremony begins at noon and will include musical selections by area performers and remarks by Gov. Joe Manchin.
