CHARLESTON, W.Va. - Gov. Joe Manchin has ordered all state flags displayed at state facilities lowered to half-staff the entire day of Saturday, May 8, 2010, in commemoration of the distinguished life and service of West Virginia Senate Minority Leader Don Caruth.
After learning of Don Caruth’s passing last Saturday, the governor said:
“Don Caruth brought so much to the West Virginia State Senate. He was a man of strong conviction and he was truly committed to the people in his district and to our entire state. No matter if you were a Republican or a Democrat, Don was a unique public servant who would always work across the aisle.
“It was my honor to join state senators this past March to recognize Don as a Distinguished West Virginian, an award that he earned through his many years of outstanding public service.
“Our thoughts and prayers go to his wife Laura and the entire Caruth family as they go through this difficult time. Don was a good friend and he truly will be missed.”
Memorial service will be held Saturday, at First United Methodist Church in Princeton.
