Governor To Discuss Senate Bill 672 With Behavorial Health Organiztions

5/1/2009
CHARLESTON, W.Va. - Gov. Joe Manchin today has asked for a Monday meeting with the West Virginia Comprehensive Behavioral Health Commission to discuss Senate Bill 672, the “Mental Health Stabilization Act of 1972.”

While the governor has not yet received the bill, because of the importance of mental health care to the state, he said he wants to fully evaluate the this bill’s potential impact before making a decision about whether to sign it.

“I am dedicated to improving the quality of behavioral health care in West Virginia,” Manchin said. “There’s been a lot of attention focused on this bill, however, based upon some of the concerns I’ve heard, I am looking to see if there is universal acceptance of this in our mental health care community.

“I want the facts at hand and the best way to do that is to bring all parties to the table to hear this out.”
