CHARLESTON, W.Va. – Gov. Joe Manchin released the following statement this evening about Secretary of Transportation Paul Mattox's announcement today that the new nine-mile stretch of US 35, from WV 34 to the Buffalo Bridge, will officially open on the afternoon of Monday, June 15:
“I am very pleased about the newest nine-mile section that is opening on US 35 this coming Monday afternoon. I thank our congressional delegation, including Sen. Robert C. Byrd, Sen. Jay Rockefeller and Congresswoman Shelly Moore Capito for their leadership and outstanding support on this project.
“At the start of my administration, I implemented a six-year transportation plan, and with the help of West Virginia’s congressional delegation, we have gotten a lot accomplished with US 35 over the past few years.
“This road is vital to West Virginia, especially when it comes to meeting our economic development, transportation and safety needs. I look forward to continue working with our congressional delegation as well as with our state and local officials to make even further advancements on this essential transportation route.”
