Gov. Joe Manchin today released the following statement regarding the recent decision made by the Obama Administration to eliminate funding toward Corridor H:
“I believe that President Obama was ill-advised to remove funding directed toward the completion of the Corridor H highway project. The state of West Virginia has not started a new project; Corridor H goes back more than 40 years under the Appalachian Regional Development Act of 1965, which Congress passed in an effort to stimulate economic growth in rural Appalachia.
“I believe that this project will serve a two-fold purpose upon its completion: to continue to grow our state’s economic development and to serve as a reliable route from a national defense standpoint.
“I would like to commend Sen. Robert Byrd for standing up in support of Corridor H and for the work he has done toward all of our Appalachian Corridors. I ask that West Virginia citizens join in support of this vital project as well.”
