Statement From The Governor About The White House Nomination Of Gov. Kathleen Sebelius

2/28/2009
Gov. Joe Manchin today released this statement about President Obama's nomination of Kansas Gov. Kathleen Sebelius to become secretary of Health and Human Services:

"I understand that earlier today Kansas Gov. Kathleen Sebelius accepted President Obama's offer to become the secretary of Health and Human Services and I can't applaud the White House decision enough.

"It has been my pleasure the past four years to work with Kathleen on a number of nation al issues. She's a tremendous leader, but she's also a real person who understands that everyone deserves quality health care. She's compassionate and has been extremely successful in her health care efforts to help people in her home state. As HHS secretary, she will bring her knowledge and experience in this field to help improve health care for all U.S. citizens.

"No one is better prepared to take this important position."
