Because of inclement weather, the governor and staff had to cancel the tour and meetings today in the Eastern Panhandle. However, the governor wanted to still speak directly with local officials, emergency services personnel, first-responders, county school superintendents and others to discuss the storm and its aftermath. He wanted to hear updates and any concerns or questions that Eastern Panhandle residents have regarding the recent storm.
Gov. Joe Manchin today released the following statement after he spoke with local officials, emergency services personnel, first-responders, county school superintendents and others on a conference call:
"I toured the Eastern Panhandle last Monday, and on Friday, I directed my top administration officials to visit the Eastern Panhandle and answer constituents’ questions. Our conference call today - the second one that I have had - with officials was very productive.
“I received updates from various communities, including: Paw Paw, Martinsburg, Berkeley Springs, Harpers Ferry, Bolivar, Romney, among others.
“All speakers expressed appreciation to everyone who helped during this storm. Many stated that they believe that their emergency plans worked well and that their area was as prepared as they could possibly be considering the amount of snow accumulation.
“Overall, I received positive feedback on how we are all working together to battle this winter weather. Our main concerns now are removing snow off secondary roads, working through the FEMA process, and getting our children back to school. I must emphasize that our top priority is always the safety of our residents.”
