CHARLESTON, W.Va. - Gov. Joe Manchin has ordered all U.S. and state flags displayed at state facilities lowered to half-staff the entire day of Saturday, Oct. 23, to commemorate the distinguished life and service of a Parkersburg soldier.
Pfc. David Alan Hess, 25, who served his country in the U.S. Army, died Oct. 10, 2010, from injuries sustained when an improvised explosive device detonated near his patrol unit in Afghanistan.
Hess is survived by his wife, Diane Kalle Hess; his son, Bryor Alan Hess; his mother, Kathryn L. Dowler; his father Jeffery A. Hess.
“Hess paid the ultimate sacrifice while protecting our nation and our state,” said the governor. “My thoughts and prayers are with the Hess family during this difficult time.”
Services are scheduled for Saturday, 11:30 a.m., at the Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home in Parkersburg.
