West Virginia To Partner With SAS To Provide Online Resources For Teachers

8/25/2009  CHARLESTON, W.Va. - Gov. Joe Manchin today announced that SAS Curriculum Pathways will provide its award-winning online resources to West Virginia teachers at no charge.

"I want to thank SAS Curriculum Pathways for their generosity and willingness to continue to put this resource in our classrooms.  Any time we are able to equip teachers with additional tools that have the ability to enhance instruction of young people - it is a win for the teacher, the students and our schools," said Manchin.

SAS Curriculum Pathways provides resources and content for grades 8-12 aligned with state standards in English, history/social science, science, mathematics and Spanish.

Designed for a range of classroom environments, technology capabilities and learning styles, SAS Curriculum Pathways can be used in classrooms, virtual schools, small groups and by individual students. It can be accessed by schools and instructors by setting up online accounts through the West Virginia Department of Education or by visiting www.sascurriculumpathways.com.

"Learning happens when students are engaged," said state Superintendent of Schools Steve Paine. "SAS Curriculum Pathways is such a powerful tool because it brings content alive.  The Web-based curriculum resource not only helps educators make learning fun for students, it helps them assess the depth of knowledge and proficiency level of each student."

Currently, nearly 400 schools and more than 4,300 West Virginia educators have SAS Curriculum Pathways accounts.

In December 2008, SAS announced that they would make the product available to all U.S. educators at no cost.  This meant that once the existing state license expired in the summer of 2009, West Virginia would not have to pay for future usage.

SAS will continue to work with the West Virginia Department of Education to assist teachers with their use of SAS Curriculum Pathways and also plan to engage with the West Virginia Center for Professional Development.
