CHARLESTON, WV – West Virginia Insurance Commissioner, Jane L. Cline, along with Inspector General Gary N. Griffith, announced today that a Boone County man was arrested for insurance fraud late last month. Mathew J. Harrison, age 27 of Bim, West Virginia was arrested by the West Virginia State Police on December 21, 2007 and charged him with five (5) felony counts of insurance fraud and five (5) felony counts of fraudulent schemes. Mr. Harrison is being held in the Southwestern Regional Jail and bond has been set at $104,000. Mr. Harrison is alleged to have filed fraudulent insurance claims on five (5) different occasions from 2002 through 2006.
Commissioner Cline stated, “Fraudulent claims continue to drive up costs for all goods and services and we need the public to be aware that insurance crimes are not victimless crimes, we all end up paying when fraud occurs”.
