Antique Appraisal Clinic returns to Blennerhassett Museum April 25

3/3/2009  The value of family heirlooms, antiques, books, paintings or other cherished items may be more than a treasured memory. The Antiques Appraisal Clinic at the Blennerhassett Museum in Parkersburg on Saturday, April 25, is an opportunity to find out “What is this pocket watch worth?” or “Is this a real silver tray?”

The Friends of Blennerhassett has made arrangements with Jeff Spear, manager of Riverview Antiques in Marietta Ohio, to conduct an appraisal clinic at Blennerhassett Museum from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on April 25 to examine and provide a verbal appraisal of heirlooms, books, painting, furniture, and items of unique interest. Spear does not provide appraisals on jewelry, guns or musical instruments. The event, sponsored by the Friends (of Blennerhassett), limits appraisals to four items per person and there is a fee of $5 per item. “Proceeds from this event support activities and programs the Friends conduct for Blennerhassett Island Historical State Park,” according to Pam Salisbury, event spokeswoman.

Blennerhassett Museum is affiliated with Blennerhassett Island Historical State Park and is located in Parkersburg on the corner of Juliana and Second streets. The Friends of Blennerhassett, the Blennerhassett Island Foundation and the state park offer programs such as the Antiques Appraisal Clinic throughout the year, both at the museum and on the island.

Blennerhassett Museum of Regional History admission is $4 for adults and $2 for children ages 3-12.  The museum is open year-round to visitors, tour groups and as a meeting site. Blennerhassett Island, mansion, and island activities open for the season on May 1, Tuesdays through Sundays throughout the summer and during special fall event hours.

Call the Blennerhassett Museum of Regional History at (304) 420-4800 or 1-800-CALL-WVA for operating hours, which change throughout the year. The museum may open on Mondays with advanced notice and scheduling for groups, events, meetings, or special occasions.

More information is available on www.blennehassettislandstatepark.com or www.wvstateparks.com.  For additional information about the Antique Appraisal Clinic, lectures, or other activities hosted by Blennerhassett Island Historical State Park, phone (304) 420-4800.
