8/20/2008  Combine rock ‘n roll music with street rods, bikes and antique cars and it is Pipestem Resort State Park’s pre-autumn Oldies Rock ‘n Roll Weekend August 23. The day is two-fold with the car show during the day and the evening amphitheater show featuring the Collegians.

More than 300 cars and bikes have registered for the car show for this year’s event, according to Dave Ruble of A&R Productions. “We have entries from Ohio, Michigan, North and South Carolina, Virginia and of course West Virginia, coming to Pipestem this weekend,” said Steve Bolar, park superintendent. “Ruble and car show organizer Myron Anderson do a wonderful job organizing what I consider one of the best car shows in West Virginia.”

The car show is open to the public at no charge. It begins at 8 a.m. and concludes around 4 p.m. The show will feature live music by Transit Time, cars will be judged and Best of Show will be awarded along with trophies and dash plaques. Individuals interested in showing a car or bike may enter the show the day of the event by paying the entry fee.

The Collegians, a Bluefield based group, perform at Pipestem amphitheater at 8 p.m. to complete the Oldie Rock ‘n Roll Weekend. The Collegians, known for "Carolina Beach Music," also incorporates Soul and R&B, current pop, party and country titles. The group has been entertaining for more than 30 years.

Admission for the amphitheater show is $10 for adults at the gate or $8 for advance ticket purchases. Children’s rates are available, and children under five are admitted at no charge.
