Billy Payne continues to make progress on the national country music scene. A native of Kincaid, Fayette County, Payne brings home-grown talent to the amphitheater at Pipestem Resort State Park this weekend.
“He is a rising country music singer from West Virginia,” notes Dave Summers, Assistant Superintendent at Pipestem. “At Pipestem it is always a pleasure to have performers from our state on the stage. If you like the Waylon Jennings and Johnny Cash traditional country musical style, you will definitely like Billy Payne.”
Payne has played on the Outlaws tour, including recent shows at Nashville and Cleveland. During the Outlaws performances, Payne sings Jennings’ tunes as well as music from his own CDs, “No Limit on Love” and “Back to the Simple Life.” He also includes songs from an Outlaws compilation CD planned for later this year. He will be in the studio with the Waylors in Mississippi in mid-November to record a Payne-written song, “Nashville Ain’t The Same Anymore.”
“It’s a highlight to be involved (in the Outlaws tour), playing with Waylon’s band,” Payne said recently.
Pipestem Resort State Park is located between Athens and Hinton West Virginia on Route 20. The state park offers lodge/hotel, cabins, camping, golf, hiking, restaurants, and nature and recreational activities. The park is open year-round.
Payne is the next to last event at Pipestem amphitheater for the 2008 season. The Car Show Weekend with the Collegians is August 23, 2008. Ticket price for Billy Payne is $6 for adults and $3 for children ages 6-12. Advance tickets for the Collegians are available now.
