Eclectic Music Experience With Acoustic Soloist Timothy Seaman Hawks Nest State Park Dinner Theater February 23

4/14/2008

Acoustic soloist Timothy Seaman brings together an eclectic blend of music styles unlike any other. The February 23 dinner theater at Hawks Nest features dulcimer, psaltery and flute as this musician entertains in a Celtic and folk theme. Seaman is also a vocalist and plays the bowed psaltery as part of the show.
"When I worked at Seneca Rocks Visitor Center, Timothy Seaman was one of my most attended programs" says Willa Grafton, programmer for Hawks Nest State Park. "His hammered dulcimer takes on the heart of a Chopin ballad, and then to a festive old-time mountain dance sound. His bamboo or silver flute folk renditions are wonderful. He is just so very entertaining.  He brings extra instruments and invites the audience to participate."

Seaman is a specialist in mountain themes, parks, nature, Celtic roots and folk hymns.  Since 1978, he has produced or co-produced fifteen recordings, including Here on This Ridge, for Shenandoah National Park; Cleansing Fountain, folk hymn interpretations for the Blue Ridge Parkway; Celebration of Centuries, for Williamsburg's tri-centennial; Sycamore Rapids, featuring the hammered dulcimer in "adventures out among the trees of Virginia's Parks and Forests;" Jamestown: On the Edge of a Vast Continent, for the 2007 commemoration; and Virginia Wildlife, for the Department of Game and Inland Fisheries.

Seaman's music reflects his obvious love of the outdoors and nature, which he attributes to his father, Elwood A. "Woody" Seaman, who was the first Chief of Fisheries for West Virginia from about 1948 to 1955, and his newspaper column "Fishful Thinking" was published for several years.

Dinner theaters at Hawks Nest State Park, located in Ansted, have become a winter tradition and offer a wide variety of entertainment.  All Hawks Nest dinner theaters are staged in the park restaurant with dinner beginning at 6:30 p.m. and the show immediately following.  Dinner is plated with a choice of rib eye, rainbow trout, or chicken entree.  Dinner theater is $41.26 per person; an overnight package including dinner, show, room, and breakfast for two is $152.  Hawks Nest dinner theater prices include all taxes and gratuity as applicable.

The Timothy Seaman Dinner Theater at Hawks Nest is an opportunity to hear and enjoy traditional, newly composed, and Baroque music that reviewers have referred to as "soul-to-soul" and "highly lyrical."   Call for reservations or information, (304) 658-5212.
