10/1/2009

CAIRO, W.Va. – Beautiful fall foliage is followed by the reality of winter weather. For some, a brisk hike or sled ride is the ticket for winter fun and for others the starting of a craft or completion of a project is on the winter “to-do” list.  A Quilters Get-Away Weekend at North Bend State Park is an opportunity to begin or to finish a quilting project.

Instructors Marilyn Maher and Karen Harris will be conduct classes from Oct. 29 through Nov. 1. Participants will have three nights and three days to work together to piece, appliqué and learn quilting techniques.  The special event includes “project time” and “class time.” The project room opens at 7 a.m. and classes are scheduled at 3 p.m.

  • Easy Machine Paper Piecing with Marilyn Maher teaches how to use paper to piece block without worrying about points. This method turns scrap fabrics into beautiful designs. Patterns, handouts and fabric are available in a kit for a pieced block.

Overnight packages are available for single, double or triple room occupancy and include housing, activities, classes, and refreshments.  There also is a day rate for classes only. A supply list is provided to all pre-registered for the workshop.
