“The Redcoats” Farewell Concert at Pipestem Resort State Park June 19

6/16/2010  PIPESTEM, W.Va. – In the mid-1960s, some teenage boys began playing music in the basement of one of their parent’s homes in Princeton. Little did they know that was the beginning of a musical journey that would span nearly 50 years. From those humble beginnings came one of the most respected and loved Beach and Motown groups on the east coast – The Redcoats. Now, the group is set to make its final concert appearance as Pipestem Resort State Park presents The Redcoats in concert in the park’s amphitheater on Saturday, June 19 at 8 p.m.

In the early days the band played Princeton, Bluefield and surrounding areas. Soon The Redcoats became known up and down the east coast for their top-notch beach and oldies style of music. The band performed at venues in Roanoke, Atlanta and Myrtle Beach, working clubs and private parties.

“Along the way we built a huge following of loyal fans that contributed to the longevity and success of the group,” according to Stan Wikle, group spokesman. The Redcoats appeared in concert with some of the leading names including The Drifters, The Tams, The Coasters, Martha Reeves and the Vandellas, Otis Redding, The Four Seasons and others. Group members performing at Pipestem include, Dwight Bryant, Dan Lockhart, Ron Sagady and Jim French.

Tickets for the final appearance of The Redcoats are $6 and may be purchased at the gate beginning at 7 p.m. on the day of the concert, June 19.

The Redcoats concert is one of many concerts and performance scheduled at Pipestem this summer. For more information, contact Pipestem Resort State Park, 304-466-1800, Ext. 379 or visit online at www.pipestemresort.com.
