
Two Upshur County Men Cited for Illegal Deer Kill

An investigation by a Division of Natural Resources conservation officer and Upshur County sheriff’s deputies has resulted in citations being issued to two Upshur County men for a number of wildlife law violations involving the illegal killing of a deer, according to Capt. Mike Pizzino of the DNR District 3 office in French Creek.
A Rock Cave resident reported gunfire near his home during the early morning hours of August 6 to local law enforcement authorities. Sgt. Marshall Powers and Deputy Dewain Linger of the Upshur County Sheriff’s Department and Conservation Officer Jeff Craig investigated the incident and discovered a large buck deer had been spotlighted, shot, its head severed and the body left in a nearby field. The officers later recovered the head, and further investigation resulted in the citation of the two on various wildlife law violations.
Thirty-two year old Heath Foster of the Whites Run Road area of Rock Cave received citations for: use of artificial light in taking deer, hunting during closed season, carrying a loaded gun in a motor vehicle, and shooting within 500 feet of a residence
Thirty-two year old Terry Pumphrey, who lives near Ireland on the Lewis County border,was cited for: use of artificial light in taking a deer, hunting during closed season, illegal possession of wildlife, and conspiring in a hunting violation.
