Valentine's Day Sweeter On Weekends At Wv State Parks

1/23/2008

West Virginia State Parks offer romantic weekend getaways in recognition of the Valentine's Day month of February, and there are Valentine's Day events and other options to consider.

  • North Bend State Park has a Valentine package the weekend before Valentine's Day. The weekend of February 8 is a fun relaxing getaway weekend that includes romantic hikes, crafts, gourmet meals, entertainment and a sweetheart dance. The package includes two nights of lodging, meals and all activities. A dinner and dance only package is also available.
  • "Love Letters" Dinner & Theater at Chief Logan Lodge is scheduled on Valentine's Day, Thursday, February 14. This Valentine package includes overnight accommodations, including continental breakfast and dinner theatre at the Chief Logan Lodge, Hotel and Conference Center. The dinner and play only is also available as an option. "Love Letters" is presented by The Aracoma Story, Inc. players and is a romantic play about a lifetime of love and all the nuances of relationships. Reservations are required for the package and dinner reservations for this Valentine's Day event.
  • Escape into the mountains of Pipestem Resort State Park for a special Valentine's Day weekend February 15-17. Enjoy fun activities, Friday evening dessert and music, Saturday evening dinner, and a dance. The package includes activities, two nights of lodging and Saturday evening dinner and dance.
  • Spend a fun and romantic weekend with that special someone at Twin Falls Resort State Park February 15-17. The package includes two nights of lodging at the Twin Falls Lodge or one of the park's many cabins, Friday evening activities, Saturday evening dinner, dance, hors d'oeuvres, drink mixers and a sweet cash auction. Guests can earn "sweet cash" throughout the weekend for the auction on Saturday night. A king and queen will be crowned during the dance Saturday evening.
  • A journey to Cacapon Resort State Park to steal away for a sweetheart weekend is new this year. A sweetheart packaged event on February 15-16 includes overnight lodging, meals and entertainment.  Berkeley Springs State Park and the historic town of Berkeley Springs is nearby, approximately 12 miles from Cacapon, offering a variety of shops and points of interest in Morgan County. Cacapon Resort and Berkeley Springs features a spa package offered throughout the year.  Berkeley Springs is an historic spa and presents its services in the style of the 1930s with it's history of "baths" and health attributes dating back to the late 1700s with George Washington's regular visits.
  • If a Saturday evening dinner theater is more your sweetheart's style, then Hawks Nest State Park presents "Opened Mail," a comical look at the art of communication between adults. A reader's theater style production by Karen Vuranch and Gene Worthington, it is a husband and wife team entertaining husbands and wives through theater and perhaps with an inside track on relationships. This event is scheduled for February 16, and an overnight package is available.

Park restaurants are open year-round at the state park lodges.  State parks with full-service restaurants include:  Stonewall, Pipestem, Cacapon, Canaan Valley, and Twin Falls resorts, North Bend, Hawks Nest, Blackwater Falls state parks, and Chief Logan Lodge. Valentine Day reservations are accepted.

Sweetheart packages, dinner theaters, and dances are some of the many West Virginia State Park's programs and events scheduled this year.  For information regarding specific Sweetheart/Valentine details, contact 800-CALL-WVA and ask for the park by name.
