W.Va. State Parks System Recognizes Veterans in November

10/27/2008

West Virginia State Parks and Forests recognize veterans and their service to our country and state. As is traditional with Veteran’s Day approaching, rate reductions are in effect for lodge and cabin rentals from November 3 through 17 for active military personnel or those having served or who are now in the reserves. The reduced rate is 20 percent from standard rates and is available by asking for the veteran’s recognition discount.

“Veterans appreciation discounts have become a tradition at West Virginia State Parks and Forest near Veteran’s Day each year,” says Ken Caplinger, Chief of Parks. “Initially, the offer was observed just on the holiday but has since been extended. Our recognition of men and women currently serving our country, in the reserves or who have served in the past, is important.”

West Virginia State Parks and Forests have several active reservists in the work force, including superintendents Ernie Adkins at Kanawha State Forest, Erik Evans at Little Beaver, and Rob Sovine at Bluestone Wildlife Management Area.

Parks and forests with lodge or cabins options include: Beech Fork, Blackwater Falls, Bluestone, Cacapon Resort, Canaan Valley Resort, Cass Scenic Railroad, Chief Logan Lodge, Hawks Nest, Holly River, Kumbrabow State Forest, Lost River, North Bend, Pipestem Resort, Stonewall Resort, Twin Falls Resort, Tygart Lake and Watoga.

For additional information and details, call 1-800-CALL WVA and ask for the park or forest or go online to www.wvstateparks.com/packages .
