Watercolor Workshop "Near And Far" At Tygart Lake State Park May 29

4/15/2008

Spring Landscape in Watercolor - "Near and Far" "“ with instructor Linda J. C. Turner, will focus on simplifying compositions of both panoramic and close-up landscapes, including the lake, foliage and flowers, during a watercolor workshop at Tygart Lake State Park May 29.
Turner invites workshop participants to explore color by mixing and using the primary colors, with emphasis on color temperature, according to Sherri Dowling, Program Coordinator at Tygart Lake. "I never knew there was such variation of color in the spring landscape until I met our workshop instructor.  Even landscapes dominated by apparent greens can be vivid or subtle with other colors."

The workshop weekend is designed for the experienced watercolor painter or the intermediate or advanced level.  It will be conducted in a studio setting and also out-of-doors, weather permitting, on the grounds of Tygart Lake State Park, located near Grafton in Taylor County.

Linda J. C. Turner derives inspiration for her paintings and drawings from nature, historic locales and events, and people in everyday situations. Watercolor is her primary medium and her work can be found nation-wide in private and corporate collections. Turner exhibits her work nationally in juried, solo, and invitational shows, including the National Watercolor Society, based in California and the American Watercolor Society in New York City. Her painting, "Philippi Bridge "“Spring 1861," commissioned by the historical architects of the Philippi Covered Bridge, was published in the magazine, "America's Civil War," and is the cover illustration of the book by Stan Cohen, West Virginia's Covered Bridges. Her Painting, "After a Summer Shower," has been purchased for the permanent collection at the West Virginia Development Office at the Capitol in Charleston, West Virginia.  Her studio is Laurelwood Art Studio in Jane Lew, W.Va.
