West Virginia State Park Gift Cards purchased online or by telephone in November or December will have 12 “Something Extra” cards included for each $100 dollars purchased, according to West Virginia State Parks Chief Ken Caplinger. These Something Extra cards include discounts and encourage participation in parks activities
West Virginia State Park gift cards are popular for special occasions, birthdays and anniversaries, holidays, and for corporate incentive or employee reward programs.
“The Something Extra is 12 cards with 12 different offers at popular parks,” says Carol Stewart of West Virginia State Parks’ Charleston Office. Every year around Christmas and the other holidays, Stewart and co-workers prepare park information packets and folders that include brochures, discount packages, and this year, Something Extra bonus cards.
Each 12-pack includes: free dessert at North Bend, outdoor day pass to swim at North Bend and Chief Logan, a free book at Blackwater, 18-hole greens fee at Twin Falls Resort, sled rental at Pipestem Resort, a tram ride at Hawks Nest, or $10 off on a Friday or Saturday at Chief Logan Lodge, and several others. “It may not seem like a lot of money, but anyone visiting parks in 2009 will recognize the value,” Stewart says. The Something Extra value for each packet exceeds $100, depending upon when the cards are redeemed. This value does not reflect the free cabin night offer at Lost River State Park.
“Our gift card program continues to be popular with West Virginians, including both current and former residents with their hearts still in our state,” says Caplinger. “Calls we receive for gift cards and park information are often from family members sending cards to use as a gift or to encourage a reunion or vacation.”
Accommodations, activities and amenities in state parks remain affordable and offer a broad range of rates and fees. “Our parks and forests vary so much that anyone can find a budget niche and a place to visit for the day or overnight,” Caplinger explains. As an additional savings, West Virginia state parks and forests do not charge an entrance fee.
“The great thing about receiving Something Extra cards is that you can include them with the gift card as part of a gift, give them to someone else, or keep them as a little something for yourself,” Stewart said. She also explains that using the “Extras” doesn’t have to be in conjunction with gift card use. “The only time we include a little Something Extra is with gift card sales in November and December 2008. We are very pleased to incorporate these budget stretchers in our gift card program to encourage state park visitation in the New Year.”
Unlike the West Virginia State Park Gift Card, which has no expiration date, the Something Extra cards have no cash value and may only be redeemed during valid use dates.
State park gift cards are accepted at all state parks and forests for lodge room and cabin rentals, restaurant, golf play, wobble clay range at Cacapon, spa treatments at Berkeley Springs, gift shops and camping.
Many of the individual parks and forests sell gift cards, but will not have the Something Extra cards to distribute. The Something Extra gift card promotion only applies to West Virginia State Park gift cards purchased online at www.wvstateparks.com or by phoning (304) 558-2764 from November 1 – December 15. The Something Extra promotion does not apply to previous card purchases or redemptions.
