Acoustic soloist Timothy Seaman blends music styles unlike any other. His Jan. 24 dinner theater performance at Hawks Nest will feature dulcimer, psaltery and flute as a native son entertains in a Celtic and folk theme. Seaman is also a vocalist and plays the bowed psaltery as part of the evening.
Timothy Seaman was a musical guest last year and the response was an encore performance in 2009. “We are pleased that Tim is taking time out of his busy schedule performing in Williamsburg and Yorktown, Va., to play for us again here at Hawks Nest,” says Willa Grafton, event coordinator. “He is a crowd pleaser. You can’t help but become part of his show and what a thrill it is for everyone. We are delighted to that he is willing to travel the miles to join us again this year.” Seaman brings extra instruments and invites the audience to participate.
Seaman is a specialist in mountain themes, parks, nature, Celtic roots and folk hymns. Since 1978, he has produced or co-produced 15 recordings, including Here on This Ridge for Shenandoah National Park; Cleansing Fountain, folk hymn interpretations for the Blue Ridge Parkway; Celebration of Centuries for Williamsburg’s tri-centennial; Sycamore Rapids, featuring the hammered dulcimer in “adventures out among the trees of Virginia’s Parks and Forests;” Jamestown: On the Edge of a Vast Continent, for the 2007 commemoration; and Virginia Wildlife, for the Department of Game and Inland Fisheries. His Web site www.timothyseaman.com illustrates his versatility and talent.
Seaman’s father was Elwood A. "Woody" Seaman, who was the first chief of fisheries for West Virginia from about 1948 to 1955, and his newspaper column “Fishful Thinking” was published for several years.
