CHARLESTON, W.V.—Governor Joe Manchin today announced Jason Pizatella, Esq. will serve as the Deputy State Tax Commissioner for the West Virginia State Tax Department.
Mr. Pizatella’s prior state government service includes serving as counsel to the State Senate Committee on Government Organization and Committee on Finance for the 79th West Virginia Legislature. In addition, Mr. Pizatella served in the office of former West Virginia Governor Bob Wise.
“Jason Pizatella has a rich knowledge of state law and of state government,” Manchin said, “I have no doubt Jason will be a valued team member at the State Tax Department as it continues to fulfill its duties while providing the best possible customer service to the citizens of West Virginia.”
Mr. Pizatella fills the position of Deputy State Tax Commissioner which was left vacant by the appointment of Craig Griffith to Acting State Tax Commissioner in March 2010.
“I am pleased that Jason will be joining the State Tax Department,” Acting State Tax Commissioner Craig Griffith said. “I have worked closely with Jason during his tenure as counsel for the Senate Finance and Senate Government Organization committees. Jason’s diligence, interpersonal skills and track record of being a devoted public servant will be a perfect fit for his duties as Deputy Tax Commissioner.”
Prior to his employment as Deputy State Tax Commissioner, Mr. Pizatella practiced law at Spilman, Thomas and Battle, PLLC in Charleston where he supported the firm’s clients in the areas of general corporate and business law, mergers and acquisitions, administrative law, as well as state and federal government relations and regulatory law.
The Fairmont native is a 2007 graduate of the West Virginia University College of Law and a 2004 graduate of the West Virginia University Eberly College of Arts and Sciences.
The State Tax Department, an agency under the Department of Revenue, administers West Virginia’s tax laws and collects revenue due the State.
