
West Virginia Society of Certified Public Accountants Honors Cabinet Secretary Virgil T. Helton

WHITE SULPHUR SPRINGS, W.V.—The West Virginia Society of Certified Public Accountants presented West Virginia Department of Revenue Cabinet Secretary Virgil T. Helton, CPA with the Outstanding Member in Government Award for 2008 during the WVSCPA’s annual meeting at the Greenbrier Resort in June.
A long-time member of the WVSCPA, Secretary Helton is recognized for his outstanding leadership to the State of West Virginia. Secretary Helton was appointed Cabinet Secretary of Revenue in October 2007 by Governor Joe Manchin.
Before the appointment, Secretary Helton served as West Virginia Tax Commissioner and prior to that time he served the last two administrations as Deputy Director and Chief Financial Officer of the West Virginia Lottery.
“I am truly honored to receive this distinguished award from the West Virginia Society of Certified Public Accountants,“ Secretary Helton said. “I am grateful for the Society’s continuing efforts to work with myself and other State leaders in an effort to improve West Virginia.”
As the recipient of the WV Society of CPAs award, Secretary Helton is eligible for consideration for the national American Institute of Certified Public Accountants Government Award.
