SOUTH CHARLESTON, W.Va. – Planning a trip to the Mountain State is easier with the new 2009 Official State Travel Guide. The 240-page guide is now available to the public and highlights many of West Virginia’s attractions.
"No matter what season it is, there’s a wild and wonderful West Virginia vacation that will work for every family’s budget,” said. Gov. Joe Manchin. “The travel guide will help you to find all the fun things there are to do right here.”
The travel guide features attractions and events in each of the state’s nine travel regions with listings for accommodations, campgrounds, restaurants, parks, shops, galleries, museums and other special places. The guide has a calendar of events section that spotlights fairs, festivals, performances, historical re-enactments and more. Featured stories are written by professional travel writers and offer first-hand accounts of experiencing the state’s wonders, including Appalachian crafts, the state’s great outdoors and Civil War re-enactments. An online version of the entire travel guide will be posted on the state's official travel site, www.wvtourism.com, by Jan. 21.
“The travel guide showcases the best our state has to offer,” said Secretary of Commerce Kelley Goes. “It provides potential visitors and vacation planners with a wealth of information. Those planning a getaway to West Virginia will find it easy to use.”
The guide was published in cooperation with Miles Media Inc., which has produced the Official State Travel Guide since 2004.
The Division of Tourism sends free guides to thousands of callers and Web site visitors, and distributes it at Welcome Centers and at travel shows across the country and even abroad.
