1/12/2009
SOUTH CHARLESTON, W.Va. – Due to an expected increase in the number of visitors during the presidential inauguration, two Eastern Panhandle Welcome Centers will offer extended hours for travelers.
The I-81 Northbound Welcome Center at Inwood and I-81 Southbound Welcome Center at Falling Waters are changing their hours to 8 a.m. – 8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 16 through Monday, Jan. 19. Regular hours of operation at all Welcome Centers are from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., seven days a week, 361 days a year.
“More than 3 million visitors stopped at the eight West Virginia Welcome Centers in 2008,” said Tourism Commissioner Betty Carver. “In particular, the I-81 Welcome Centers had approximately 1 million visitors last year. The state’s Welcome Centers serve as the first impression many travelers have while passing through our state. Our friendly staff can assist visitors with attractions, accommodations, events and directions.”
For more information about the extended hours, contact the I-81 Southbound Welcome Center at 304-767-0175 or the I-81 Northbound Welcome Center at 304-229-8836.
