Motorcycle Travel Site Roars Onto The Web

7/17/2008  CHARLESTON, W.Va. – Nothing compares to the experience of riding on the back of a motorcycle. Amazing switchbacks, breathtaking scenery and fresh mountain air are all part of the trip when it comes to riding through West VirginiaNow, thanks to the West Virginia Division of Tourism, a new mini-Web site, www.wvmountainrider.com, makes it easier to plan and enjoy a motorcycling trip in the Mountain State.

“For me, nothing compares to a motorcycle ride; it is the perfect escape from the daily pressures of life. I am thrilled that Tourism has created a site that maps routes dedicated to the motorcycle enthusiast,” said West Virginia Governor Joe Manchin, a motorcyclist himself. “The First Lady and I especially enjoy the trip along Route 50, from Parkersburg to Grafton.  It’s the perfect route to take in West Virginia’s beauty.

The Web site features routes across the state, and highlights attractions and destinations that are scenic and affordable. One such tour in the North Central part of the state takes the adventurer from Coopers Rock State Forest near Morgantown to the birthplace of Mother’s Day in Taylor County, and then back to Pricketts Fort situated near Fairmont. Maps for each of these journeys can be found on the site.

The site includes safety tips, as well as information about upcoming motorcycle rallies and events. Some of those activities include the Mountain State Harley Owners Group (HOG) Rally at Canaan Valley Resort, going on now through July 20. The Freedom Fest at Snowshoe Mountain began July 16 and will conclude on July 20. The Mountainfest Motorcycle Rally in Morgantown takes place later this month from July 24-27.

Activities for all ages take place at these events, including stunt shows and concerts. Information about accommodations, shopping, attractions and restaurants is also available on the site.

This is one of a series of specialized sites that provide people with targeted information about a particular area of interest, or to showcase new and exciting adventures in the state they may not have thought of or considered.
