Six Ways To Spend $600 Tax Rebates In The Mountain State

5/5/2008

Charleston, W.Va. - People looking for ways to spend their $600 IRS economic stimulus tax rebate checks need not look any farther than West Virginia, according to the West Virginia Division of Tourism.
Travelers are encouraged to access the West Virginia Division of Tourism's travel planning tools available through its Web site, www.escape2wv.com.   The site features unique mini-sites tailored to the individual traveler.   Whether seeking adventure, nightlife, river sports, weekends, traditions or escapes, www.escape2wv.com offers opportunities to suit your travel planning needs.

"West Virginia is accessible to the majority of the traveling population of the United States," said Betty Carver, West Virginia Tourism commissioner.    "Within a day's drive time and with such a variety of options, West Virginia is the perfect destination to get the most bang for your rebate buck!"

The Division offers the following six ways for travelers to spend their $600 tax rebate checks:

Adventure - West Virginia offers adventures for every season of the year.   From outdoor adventures on wheels, foot, water or under the stars, West Virginia is a one-stop adventure shop.   The Hatfield-McCoy Trail System in the southern part of the state has quickly gained national recognition for its world-class ATV riding, as it has more than 500 miles of trails open to ATV riders, motorcyclists, off-road cyclists and equestrians.   Explore the trails and stay at Chief Logan State Park for well under $600.   Other adventures await along the Highland Scenic Highway, the Allegheny Trail, New River Gorge, Seneca Rocks, or the Flatwoods RV Park, just to name a few.

Nights - Music, dancing, theater and an exciting atmosphere sum up the nightlife experience in Atlantic City or Las Vegas, but West Virginia has this and more.   Travel to the northern part of the Mountain State to experience Mountaineer Casino Racetrack and Resort and Wheeling Island Hotel, Casino and Racetrack, where one can enjoy hours of entertainment and stay overnight all in the same place.   Or try to win big at Charles Town Races & Slots in the eastern panhandle and Tri-State Racetrack & Gaming Center in the Charleston area.

River Sports - Whether seeking an extreme whitewater adventure or a relaxing experience with family, look no further than  "America's Best Whitewater," West Virginia's New and Gauley Rivers.   Following quality time on the whitewater, rest at a nearby bed and breakfast or state park and keep some of that $600 in your pocket!

Weekends - There is no limit to the cozy nooks that one can rest and relax in throughout West Virginia.   From Blackwater Falls State Park to the Deerpark Country Inn in Buckhannon to Glade Springs Hotel & Conference Center in Daniels, a serene escape awaits anyone ready for a weekend away from it all.

Traditions - West Virginia is a state that is deeply rooted in its history.   The Appalachian culture abounds throughout the state, especially with fairs and festivals filled with arts, crafts and music in every county of the Mountain State.   Appreciate the state's rail heritage and scenic beauty by boarding the Tygart Flyer, Cheat Mountain Salamander and Cass Scenic Railroad's trains.

Escapes - The Mountain State is made up of hundreds of little towns filled with small-town charm.   Each is unique in its own way.   Plan a trip to Berkeley Springs, Elkins, Fayetteville, Lewisburg, Shepherdstown or any other small town gems to escape everyday life and enjoy the charm that each town brings.

Consider planning a trip with one of the following activities with that extra cash this summer - stay close to home in West Virginia.   To request a travel guide or for additional West Virginia travel ideas, visit www.callwva.com.
