Mountain State Art & Craft Fair: July 1-3, Ripley
More than 130 artisans will set up shop to demonstrate and sell a variety of products, including wood, glass and metal pieces, one-of-a-kind clothing items and fine art. Musical and traditional Appalachian entertainment are scheduled throughout the festival, as well as other family-friendly activities like storytelling, Appalachian cooking demonstrations and authentic cornmeal grinding. Start your morning off with buckwheat cakes or homemade sausage gravy, enjoy a lunch of West Virginia barbecue, FFA roasted corn or traditional beans and cornbread, and shop the marketplace for West Virginia-made food products. Lavender Day at La Paix 2010: July 10, La Paix Herb Farm, Alum Bridge
Enjoy a day at La Paix Herb Farm celebrating lavender, herbs, wild things and the people who tell you about them. Jane Birdsong will entertain with dulcimer and guitar music. A light luncheon catered for the 8th year by Chef Dale Hawkins is included in the cost of registration, and is complimentary. Most workshops will be held twice so that all registrants can see all that is offered. Booths will be limited to those of the speakers/presenters and a few longtime Lavender Fair favorites. Please, no pets and children under 12 must be escorted by an adult at all times. Please be aware that these workshops and tours take place on a historic homestead in Wild, Wonderful West Virginia. This is an outside environment event and the grass paths and grounds are hilly and uneven. The wood walks are on rustic paths, with steep climbs, and sometimes participants stray off the paths. The event is limited to no more than 100 participants who must pre-register by July 3rd, 2010 in order to attend. Prices are $50 per person or $185 for four in a car. Meriwether Lewis Returns to Harpers Ferry: July 10, Harpers Ferry National Historical Park, Harpers Ferry
Discover Harpers Ferry role in the Lewis and Clark expedition with Richard Cheatham as Captain Meriwether Lewis and the musical group, Magpie. During the spring of 1803, Meriwether Lewis traveled to Harpers Ferry to procure weapons and hardware that would meet the unique requirements of his transcontinental expedition. Among the items he obtained from the United States Armory and Arsenal were 15 rifles, 15 powder horns, 30 bullet molds, 30 ball screws, extra rifle and musket locks, gunsmith's repair tools, several dozen tomahawks, 24 large knives, and a collapsible iron boat frame. John Henry Days Festival: July 9-11, Talcott
This three-day festival celebrates the legend of the Steel Drivin’ Man! The event kicks off Friday night from with a country band. Additional activities include crafts, music, parade, car show, live presentation about John Henry, free children’s water activities and carnival rides on Saturday. The musical group, Subway, will be performing '50s, '60s and '70s music from 7 p.m. – 10 p.m. on Saturday followed by fireworks. Hours Saturday are 9 a.m. – 10 p.m. Sunday’s hours begin at 9:30 a.m. with a worship service at Great Bend Tunnel with festivities ending at 6 p.m. Bring a lawn chair! New Deal Festival: July 10, Arthurdale
Revisit the 1930s in Arthurdale at the 2010 New Deal Festival. Arthurdale is the nation’s first New Deal Homestead Community and was a pet project of First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt. The festival will feature great home-cooked food, exhibits in the New Deal Homestead Museum, artisan demonstrations, local artisan craft market, the Arthurdale Heritage Craft Shop, local musician performances, a visit from Eleanor Roosevelt, hay wagon rides, an antique car, truck and tractor show, a 5K run and 2-mile walk and much more! Pre-1840s Rendezvous and Civil War Encampment: July 14-18, Tomlinson Run State Park, New Manchester

32nd Annual International Sports Jamboree: July 16-17, North Bend State Park, Cairo
Come enjoy a weekend of fun and games for physically challenged children and young adults from all over the United States. The competition is open to young people ages 8 to 25 that are either visually impaired or wheelchair-confined and are NOT eligible for the Special Olympics. Criteria includes those who are legally blind or require the use of any type of wheelchair, crutches or walker. Everyone is welcome and encouraged to attend. Volunteers are always needed, or come just to cheer on these wonderful people. It is truly an experience you won’t forget! Barboursville Civil War Days: July 16-18, Barboursville Community Park, Barboursville
This event commemorates the Battle of Barboursville which occurred July 14, 1861. The event features two-day Battle Re-enactments, guest speakers, Ladies’ Tea, camp dance, 1860-style church service and other activities. The events are open to all re-enactment units and sutlers. 2nd Annual Point Pleasant River Museum Car and Bike Show: July 17, Point Pleasant
Registration will begin at 9 a.m. and the show will be from 12 p.m. – 3 p.m. Categories will include: 1985 and newer, 1984 and older, motorcycle and motorized bikes. Alpine Lake Bluegrass Festival: July 17, Alpine Lake Boathouse, Terra Alta
The festival is held by the lake and is fun for the entire family. The event will feature six bands playing from 1 p.m. until 11 p.m. The bands include: Hillbilly Gypsies, Sheppard Brothers, No One You Know, Halftime String Band, Dave Vaughn and Redd Band and East Run Band.
