Bramwell Spring Tour of Homes: May 8, Bramwell
Step back in time for this self-guided walking tour of Bramwell’s millionaire homes with costumed interpreters. The tour will begin at the Bramwell Presbyterian Church from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. There is a fee of $15 per person and reservations are not required. Traditional Music Day: May 8, Prickett’s Fort State Park, Fairmont
Enjoy a full day of traditional music with several musicians scheduled to perform inside the visitor center as well as informal jamming in the park. Hours will be 10 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. for the musical activities. There will be no charge for the entertainment but tours of the fort and Job Prickett’s House require a ticket. Other activities will include food vendors, workshops, and an evening dance. The dance begins at 4:30 p.m. and ends at 7:30 p.m. A $5 per person admission fee is required for the dance. The Mother's Day Founders Festival is a family-oriented event honoring all mothers with food, crafts and music from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. in Grafton. Siege of Fort Randolph: May 14-16, Krodel Park, Point Pleasant
This year marks the 10th annual historical reenactment and commemoration of the murder of Chief Cornstalk and the ensuing siege of 1778. The Siege of Fort Randolph is an outdoor drama that pulls the public into the midst of living history. Spectators will see Indians besiege the fort, militiamen defend the fort walls, and Virginia women and children assist the defenders inside the fort. There will be demonstrations of life skills all day in the fort and the Indian village and many other activities throughout the day. The gift shop is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. T-shirts featuring original artwork by Andrew Knez, Jr. and refreshments will be available. Comfortable walking shoes and weather-appropriate clothing are suggested for this outdoor drama. There are also shelters on site in Krodel Park for picnic lunches. The siege drama will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday. Admission for the siege is $3 for adults and free for children ages 5 and under. Fees are subject to change. Matewan Massacre Drama and Coal Community Heritage Day: May 15, Matewan
You are invited to attend the annual Matewan Massacre Drama and Coal Community Heritage Day in downtown Historic Matewan. The Matewan Massacre Drama, a commemoration of the anniversary of the Battle of Matewan, will take place on Main Street in front of United Mine Workers of America Local Union 1440 Hall. Two performances are scheduled for 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. Traditional bluegrass music will be performed throughout the day. Other activities will include Appalachian quilt and woodworking crafters, a “Coal Miners Kid Fun Run” for children 12 and under, youngest and oldest miner present and a free cookout, compliments of UMWA Local 1440.
