
Vendors across the state to be in attendance at Tourism Day at the Legislature Feb. 17

CHARLESTON, W.Va. – From restaurants and hotels to health spas and ski resorts, vendors across the state will exhibit during the 2009 Tourism Day at the Legislature on Tuesday, Feb. 17, at the State Capitol. This crowd-favorite day is scheduled from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the first floor and second floor of the Capitol.
This year’s theme is “Interpreting our Past to Strengthen our Future.” Along with vendor exhibits, Gov. Joe Manchin will proclaim 2009 as the John Brown sesquicentennial commemorative year at 10 a.m. in the Governor’s Reception room. Refreshments will be provided from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. by the West Virginia Office of Hospitality Education and Training ProStart Program at the first floor rotunda.
A Winter Sports Celebration Exhibit is scheduled for 4 p.m. at the Cultural Center. The exhibit will focus on the history of winter outdoor recreation. Refreshments will be available.
This annual event is designed to show legislators and the public the growing importance of the state’s tourism industry. Travel spending by all overnight and day visitors in West Virginia generates more than $3.97 billion annually. Visitor spending in West Virginia directly supports approximately 44,000 jobs with earnings of about $854 million.
