Blenko's West Virginia Day pieces, rich with symbolism, celebrate history of coal

6/17/2023

MILTON — Blenko Glass is launching its West Virginia Day pieces. This year’s items draw inspiration from the coal industry.

The first West Virginia Day Piece was commissioned by Charleston’s now-defunct Diamond Department Store. The piece is a run limited to the number of years West Virginia has been a state and the price capped at the same number.
New for 2023, “Specimen” is the first multimedia West Virginia Day Blenko piece. It is a deep purple piece of glass, made in a dump mold to resemble a lump of coal, sitting on a wooden plinth under  a vivid tangerine specimen jar dome lid with a turquoise flame knob.

West Virginia Day is June 20, but Blenko is holding its celebration June 17.
